Build a hiring process candidates can follow.
Start with the work, then plan the assessment and first day.
Write a brief you can assess
- Define the work and what a successful first three months would look like.
- State the location, roster, employment basis, pay basis and essential qualifications.
- Separate what must be present on day one from what can be taught.
- Choose a job-related way to assess each essential requirement.
Check fairness and conditions
Use consistent selection criteria, accessible application arrangements and relevant interview questions. Check award or agreement coverage and classification before publishing a pay offer. Request private information only when it is needed for the stage of the process.
Plan the handoff
- Test the application destination and name the person handling questions.
- Set a closing date and expected next steps.
- Keep applications, interviews, offers, acceptances and starts as separate stages.
- Prepare induction, equipment and a first-week check-in.
