Management pay: compare the work behind the number.
A practical checklist for assessing a management offer.
Define the role before comparing pay
- Identify the team size, budget, decisions and reporting line. A supervisor, department manager and chief executive are different comparisons.
- Ask how bonus targets are measured, when they are paid, and whether they are discretionary.
- Clarify ordinary hours, travel, on-call responsibilities and what the package includes.
Check the package and the minimum
Do not assume a management title removes award or employment-standard coverage. Check the duties and applicable instrument. Some official occupation earnings are unavailable; that is a reason to keep the figure unknown.
Ask for the base amount, superannuation treatment, ordinary hours and other payments in writing. Use Fair Work for award coverage and classification before using a general occupation comparison.
Use independent occupation context
Follow the occupation source below and read its date and geographic scope. Several JSA legacy ANZSCO profiles are no longer updated. Use current Atlas data where available; none of these sources is a BendigoJobs local salary survey.
