Compare a job offer on the same basis.
Check the rate, the work and the hours before deciding what a salary means for you.
Start with the offer in front of you
- Write down the advertised amount, whether it is hourly or annual, and the ordinary hours it covers.
- Ask whether superannuation, overtime, bonuses and allowances sit inside or outside the quoted figure.
- Record the workplace, employment basis and roster. Compare a permanent role and a casual role with their conditions attached.
Check the minimum, then the context
Use Fair Work’s tool for the applicable award and classification. Check for an enterprise agreement before relying on an award guide. Then use Jobs and Skills Australia to understand the occupation; a national earnings figure is context, not the minimum lawful rate or a Bendigo salary promise.
Keep the missing questions visible
If an advertisement says “competitive salary”, ask for its range before investing in a long application. If a figure is unavailable, leave it unknown. BendigoJobs has no local salary survey or paid benchmarking database.
